Ella

Ella Sri Lanka is a Backpacker Paradise in the Hill Country.

Ella Sri Lanka, a backpacker hub located in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country, is a popular destination for tourists. It boasts a thriving tourism industry with cafes serving espresso coffee, fish and chips, and backpacker-style bars. The town is surrounded by picturesque countryside, including small vegetable plots in the valleys, tea plantations on the hill slopes, and forests on the tops. The climate is typical of the high Hill Country, with a hot sun by midday and a moderate air temperature. Afternoon rain is common but usually lasts only an hour. December can be a rainy month, so it’s advisable to bring a sweatshirt or light jacket, especially for chilly nights in Ella Sri Lanka

Hiking, Waterfalls, and Scenic Bridges.

For breathtaking views of the countryside, take a 2-hour walk (each way) along the railway track and through the tea plantations up to Ella’s Rock. The first 1.5km is along the railway track, so be mindful of oncoming trains, although they travel at a slow pace. As fog tends to roll in around 10 am, it’s best to start early, but it’s not a requirement. Rawana Ella Falls is approximately 5km away on the road south through Ella Gap. Demordara Bridge, also known as the Nine Arches Bridge, is a well-known bridge located between Ella and Demordara railway stations, offering a beautiful view.
