Ancient Engineering Marvels of Sri Lanka

Anuradhapura is renowned for its ancient stupas and reservoirs. These towering stupas, also called dagobas, are marvels of ancient Sri Lankan civil engineering. They were built while considering various engineering factors, including the effects of lightning on high-rise constructions. Besides stupas, Anuradhapura boasts magnificent rock carvings, colossal stone pillars, Buddhist monasteries, temples, royal palaces, and stone-cut swimming pools with advanced hydrology engineering techniques. All these attractions offer visitors a glimpse into the rich history of Sri Lanka.
